Azerbaijan's Chief Mufti Allahshukur Pashazade, who made a statement regarding the ban on teachers and students entering state schools in Azerbaijan while wearing headscarves, said, "The headscarf has not been banned in Azerbaijan. I do not see anywhere that the headscarf has been banned. There are madrasas and religious educational institutions; people can receive education there wearing headscarves. However, there is a decision taken regarding uniforms in the state's educational institutions."

After the new clothing regulations adopted in Azerbaijan on September 21 and October 6, as the headscarf tension in public schools continues to escalate, a statement came from the most authoritative religious figure on the issue. Azerbaijan's Chief Mufti Allahshukur Pashazade made assessments regarding the ban, which has caused a wide public reaction.

"THEY HAVE GREATLY CONFUSED THE HEADSCARF ISSUE"

Addressing the debates in the country, Allahshukur Pashazade argued that the matter was distorted. In his statement, Pashazade said, "They have greatly confused the headscarf issue. The headscarf has not been banned in Azerbaijan. I do not see anywhere that the headscarf has been banned. The headscarf is an obligatory matter sent to us by God. There are madrasas and religious educational institutions; people can receive education there while wearing a headscarf. However, there is a decision adopted regarding a uniform dress code in state educational institutions."
