The disabled elderly man, who was brutally assaulted by the high school principal and his son on a bus in Mersin last year, has passed away. The exact cause of Ramazan Polat's death will be determined after the autopsy.
On December 15, 2023, Ismet T., who is known to be the principal of a high school in Tarsus, and his son A.O.T. (17), assaulted Ramazan Polat and his wife Hamdiye Polat, who have a pacemaker and suffer from paralysis and kidney failure, on a bus heading to Mersin City Hospital. Today, sad news came about 77-year-old Ramazan Polat, who was the victim of the incident captured on security cameras.
THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH WILL BE DETERMINED BY AUTOPSY
Polat, who has been in intensive care at Mersin University Hospital for about 2 weeks, passed away despite the interventions. It was stated that the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy, and then his funeral will be held.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ismet T., who is known to be the principal of a high school in Tarsus, and his son A.O.T. (17), had an argument with Ramazan Polat and his wife Hamdiye Polat, who have a pacemaker and suffer from paralysis and kidney failure. During the argument, A.O.T. first attacked the elderly couple, followed by his father. The incident, captured second by second on the bus's security camera, led to the arrest of school principal Ismet T. on January 17, 2024. After the footage of the assault was revealed on February 28, 2024, Ismet T.'s son A.O.T. was re-arrested and later imprisoned after the necessary procedures at the police station.
FATHER RELEASED, SON'S TRIAL CONTINUES
After being informed by the Mersin Public Prosecutor's Office, Mersin Provincial Directorate of National Education announced that the mentioned school principal was suspended as of January 17 and an administrative investigation was initiated. The father had received a sentence of 3 years and 1 month and 15 days. In the subsequent trial, the imprisoned defendant, school principal Ismet T., was sentenced to 3 years and 1 month and 15 days in prison, taking into account the time spent in custody, and was released. The trial for his son A.O.T. is still ongoing at the 2nd Children's Court.
