While search and rescue operations continue at the collapsed building in Konya, it has been claimed that columns were cut during expansion work at the fishmonger’s shop located on the ground floor of the building.
A three-story building collapsed in the central Selçuklu district of Konya. While many teams were dispatched to the scene, 2 people were rescued with injuries. Teams are racing against time for the 5 people trapped under the rubble.
AFAD TEAMS CONTACTED 5 PEOPLE TRAPPED UNDER THE RUBBLE
While search and rescue operations continue in the rubble of the collapsed building in Konya, it was learned that AFAD teams established contact with 5 people trapped under the debris via phone. It was reported that the teams directed their efforts based on the statements of the trapped citizens.
RESCUED AT THE LAST MOMENT
Mohammed Veli Kahya, a Syrian national who was rescued at the last moment from the collapsed building, said, "I was coming home from work. My wife called and said, 'The building is collapsing, they are evacuating us from the house.' I got home. My family had gone outside. I have a 7-month-old child. I went back inside to get clothes for him. I left the building because I didn't have my keys. The building collapsed within 3 seconds. As I was leaving the building, my neighbor Mohammed, who lived in this building, was going up the stairs to get his family out. His father was disabled. We had not seen any signs of collapse in the building before." Residents of the buildings surrounding the collapsed structure were also evacuated as a precaution.
IDENTITIES OF 5 PEOPLE REPORTED TRAPPED UNDER THE RUBBLE HAVE BEEN DETERMINED
Meanwhile, it was reported that the individuals said to be trapped under the rubble are Syrian nationals Mohammed Ceddah, Ahmed Ceddah, Mohammed Ceddah, Turkish Ceddah, and Umuni Ceddah.
