A company in China has faced significant backlash for monitoring its employees in the restroom. The management displayed images of employees who spent too much time in the restroom under the name "wall of shame."
Shenzhen-based Lixun Electro-Acoustic company admitted to this disturbing practice. Company officials stated, "Staff were spending too much time in the restroom smoking or playing games, which was bothering other employees. Smoking in the restroom is prohibited, and our goal was to prevent people from staying in the restroom for long periods due to video games and other activities."
The revelation that the company had installed hidden cameras in restroom stalls sparked outrage on Chinese social media. Users accused the company of violating employees' privacy.
This is not the first incident. In September 2022, the China Aviation Lithium Battery company in Xiamen also made headlines for a similar scandal. Despite the photos of three employees smoking in the restroom going viral on social media, the company denied the existence of cameras.
One social media user commented, "The company should be punished for misusing surveillance cameras," while another user asked, "Aren't they aware that there are devices like smoke detectors to catch smokers?"
