As search efforts continue for the Filo Jet that sank off the coast of Girne, the tragic toll is worsening. The identities of two female passengers recovered from the wreckage have been determined. While search efforts continue for the passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the toll is worsening. The identities of two female passengers recovered from the ship's wreckage have been determined, and it has been announced that the death toll has risen to 12, while search efforts continue for the 16 missing people.
IDENTITIES OF TWO WOMEN DETERMINED
In a written statement, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel reported that the identification efforts for the two female passengers recovered from the wreck of the ship that capsized off Kyrenia in the morning hours have been completed.
Stating that, as a result of the investigations conducted by the TRNC police, it was determined that the bodies belonged to Şerife Özdemir and Nazmiye Özbolat, Üstel noted that the families have also been informed.
DEATH TOLL RISES TO 12, NUMBER OF MISSING TO 16
Following the last two identifications, it was confirmed that the number of people who lost their lives on the sunken ship is 12, and the number of missing passengers is 16.
Prime Minister Üstel stated that the Republic of Turkey continues to provide strong support for the efforts to find the missing passengers.
SEARCH EFFORTS CONTINUE 24/7
Üstel reported that, with the participation of all relevant units of the TRNC, search efforts continue uninterrupted on a 24/7 basis.
Stating that the developments on the field are being closely monitored, Üstel noted that teams are continuing their efforts to reach the missing passengers.
FILO JET SANK SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE
The high-speed passenger ship named "Filo Jet," operating between Kyrenia Port in the TRNC and Taşucu Port in Mersin, had departed from Kyrenia at noon on Sunday, August 30.
It was reported that the ship began taking on water from its bow shortly after departure and sank while trying to return to Kyrenia Port.
WRECK FOUND AT A DEPTH OF 554 METERS
Following the sinking of the ship, it was announced that the bodies of 12 people had been reached during the search efforts, and 16 people were missing.
It was reported that the wreck of the sunken Filo Jet was found at a depth of 554 meters off the coast of Kyrenia. It was stated that search and rescue teams continue their efforts to find the missing passengers.
