The driver of a vehicle stopped on suspicion of unlicensed taxi operation in Esenyurt, Istanbul, resorted to his gun upon learning that legal action would be taken and his vehicle would be impounded. The suspect fired at the plainclothes traffic police officer from behind, then shot himself with the same weapon. In the incident, both the police officer and the driver were seriously injured, and it was learned that the attacker had retired from the police force earlier this year.
Police teams conducting an operation on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street in Istanbul's Esenyurt district stopped a vehicle on suspicion of illegal taxi operation.
FIRST SHOT THE POLICE OFFICER WHO ISSUED THE FINE, THEN SHOT HIMSELF
Legal action was sought against the driver E.A., who was found to be operating an illegal taxi. Upon learning that his vehicle would be impounded, E.A. fired at the police officer from behind with the gun he had with him, then shot himself.
BOTH ARE IN SERIOUS CONDITION
In the incident, the plainclothes traffic police officer and the illegal taxi driver were seriously injured. Health teams were dispatched upon notification. After initial intervention, the injured were taken to the hospital. Numerous police officers were dispatched to the scene, and the teams' investigation continues.
