The process that began when a mother noticed color changes on her child's hands and feet upon waking up in the morning caused a wide stir on social media. The mother, who asked her followers about the situation with anxiety and fear, received thousands of interactions on her post in a short time.
After the images spread rapidly, comments from families who had similar experiences poured in under the video. Users drew attention to the condition that causes the skin to take on an orange or yellowish hue.
Here are some of the comments made;
- It could be related to high carotene, don't panic.
- Carotenemia... It happened to my daughter too; the same thing happened to us when I fed her too many carrots and pumpkins.
WHAT IS CAROTENEMIA, IS IT DANGEROUS?
Carotenemia, which experts and experienced parents point to, occurs as a result of pigment accumulation in the blood due to excessive consumption of foods rich in beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A) such as carrots, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes. This condition, especially common in babies and young children:
- Manifests itself with a distinct yellow-orange discoloration on the palms and soles.
- Since it does not cause yellowing of the whites of the eyes, it is easily distinguished from jaundice, which is a liver condition.
- It is completely harmless to general health and resolves on its own over time with small changes in the diet.
