The indictment prepared against 13 defendants regarding the armed attack on the police station in Balçova district of Izmir, where 3 police officers were martyred and 1 police officer and 2 others were injured last year, has been accepted by the Izmir 2nd High Criminal Court. In the indictment, it was requested that the 13 defendants, 7 of whom are in custody, be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment four times and up to 261 years in prison. The defendants will appear before the judge on April 9.

The indictment prepared by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding 13 defendants, including E.B., a 17-year-old member of the terrorist organization ISIS who killed police chief inspector Muhsin Aydemir, police officers Hasan Akın and Ömer Amilağ in Balçova district on September 8, 2025, and injured police officer Murat Dağlı, as well as his father N.B. and mother A.B., was accepted by the İzmir 2nd High Criminal Court.

The file of E.B., who carried out the attack, was sent to the İzmir 2nd High Criminal Court for consolidation after being separated and sent to the İzmir 1st Children's High Criminal Court. In the indictment, it was requested that the 13 defendants, 7 of whom are in custody, be sentenced to life imprisonment and up to 261 years in prison. The defendants will appear before the judge on April 9.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the attack carried out by E.B. with a shotgun at the Salih İşgören Police Station in Balçova, İzmir, on September 8, 2025, police chief inspector Muhsin Aydemir and police officer Hasan Akın were martyred, while police officers Ömer Amilağ and Murat Dağlı, along with one other person, were injured. The attacker E.B. was also captured injured in the ensuing conflict.

Ömer Amilağ was martyred on September 30 while receiving treatment in the hospital. Among the 27 suspects detained in connection with the incident, 16 who were under 18 were released after their statements at the prosecutor's office.

The attacker E.B., along with his mother A.B. and father N.B., was referred to the peace criminal court for arrest on various charges, including "intentional killing due to the public duty performed for terrorist purposes," "membership in an armed terrorist organization," and "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order." The attacker E.B., his father N.B., and M.A, K.N, C.T, F.S.A., and M.E. were arrested by the court, while the attacker's mother A.B. and T.Y, B.Y., and F.Ç. were released under judicial control.

In an operation conducted in the city on November 18, 2025, ISIS suspects H.B. and H.K. were also released under judicial control after being detained.

Regarding the detained E.B., who was reported to have received instructions for a terrorist attack to serve the organization's purpose, an indictment was prepared for charges including "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order," "membership in an armed terrorist organization," "selling, purchasing, transporting, or possessing knives or other tools for terrorist purposes without permission," three counts of "intentional killing due to the public duty performed for terrorist purposes," four counts of "attempting to intentionally kill for terrorist purposes," two counts of "attempting to kill a person due to the public duty performed for terrorist purposes," "firing a weapon in a manner that could create fear, anxiety, or panic for terrorist purposes," four counts of "damaging property for terrorist purposes," "damaging public property for terrorist purposes," "possessing or transferring dangerous materials for terrorist purposes without permission," and "violating Law No. 6136 for terrorist purposes," as well as instigation charges for the other 6 detained suspects.

In the indictment prepared for all suspects, a request for life imprisonment and up to 261 years in prison was made, and the file of E.B., who carried out the attack, was separated and sent to the children's high criminal court, while the indictment prepared for the other suspects was submitted to the high criminal court.
