The Republican People's Party (CHP), which will go to a pre-selection to determine its presidential candidate on Sunday, will hold a Pre-Selection Meeting at the Haliç Congress Center one day before the election.
CLAIM OF 'PRE-SELECTION MEETING HAS BEEN BANNED'
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın stated in a statement made after the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu that the meeting in question has been banned by the Istanbul Governorship.
Günaydın said, "Newroz is an important celebration. However, let us express that the governorship, which allows Newroz, has made a decision to ban the meeting to be held on Saturday at the Haliç Congress Center."
DENIAL FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP
Günaydın's claim was denied by the Istanbul Governorship. In a statement, the Istanbul Governorship said, "There is no ban decision regarding the mentioned event."
The full statement from the Istanbul Governorship is as follows: "The news published in various media stating that 'Istanbul Governorship has banned the CHP Pre-Selection Meeting to be held in Haliç on March 22' is unfounded. The Istanbul Governorship has not made such a decision."
