The number 10 burgundy-blue jersey of Mohammed Salah, who joined Trabzonspor two weeks ago, has taken its place in the shop windows of the historic Khan el-Khalili bazaar in Cairo. The jerseys, which have attracted intense interest from Egyptian football fans, are being sold for approximately 400 to 500 Egyptian pounds.

The jersey of Mohamed Salah, who joined Trabzonspor two weeks ago, has begun to be displayed in the windows of sports stores in Khan el-Khalili, the historic bazaar in Cairo.

SALAH FEVER IN EGYPT

In most of the sports stores in the historic bazaar, Salah's number 10 Trabzonspor jersey is displayed side by side with the Egyptian national team jersey. Many Egyptian and Arab football fans shared images of the enthusiastic welcome Salah received in Turkey, expressing their happiness that the Egyptian star player has transferred to a sports club in Turkey.

Salah Abdulmecid, a store owner in Khan el-Khalili, told the AA correspondent that the historic bazaar is a popular Cairo market recently visited by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron.

''WE ARE HAPPY THAT SALAH WENT TO TURKEY''

Regarding how quickly Mohamed Salah's Trabzonspor jersey took its place in the windows of stores in the bazaar after his transfer two weeks ago, the Egyptian tradesmen said: "We are happy that Salah went to Turkey. We love the Turkish people because their traditions are like ours and they are devoted to their religion. We love Salah just as they do, and we want him to be in Turkey."

One of Salah's fans passing through the bazaar, wearing the number 10 Trabzonspor jersey in front of the store, said, "I am very glad Salah went to Trabzon. May God make his path easy in Turkey."

According to the tradesmen in Khan el-Khalili, Salah's jersey is sold for approximately 400 to 500 Egyptian pounds ($8 to $10).

Egyptian sociologist Prof. Dr. Said Sadek said Mohamed Salah has become one of the "soft power elements" between the two countries and has also become a "fundamental element" of the rapprochement between the Egyptian and Turkish people.

''THE INTEREST IN SALAH STRENGTHENS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TURKISH AND EGYPTIAN PEOPLE''

Recalling that Salah's name was mentioned during the joint statement made by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty during his visit on August 14, Sadek assessed, "Egyptians adore Mohamed Salah; even those who do not regularly follow matches make an effort to follow his news, so it is only natural that this passion is reflected in the trade of jerseys and sports merchandise."

Sadek noted that the enthusiastic reception of Mohamed Salah in Turkey is also an important indicator of the rapprochement between the peoples of the two countries.

Stating that merchants in Egypt are very fast in keeping up with sporting and musical developments, Sadek said, "Given his immense popularity, Salah's jersey will certainly become even more widespread. It will be available in Khan el-Khalili and in every store that wants to make a profit. Moreover, this situation strengthens the relations between the Turkish and Egyptian people and allows the two countries to get to know each other's cultures more closely."

Kerem Said, an expert on Egypt-Turkey relations, said the intense interest shown in Mohamed Salah since his transfer to Turkey reflects a dimension that goes beyond sports, encompassing political, commercial, and social fields.

"We have seen great speed in the printing of jerseys in the Egyptian market and their appearance in stores, and there is also great interest in Salah in Turkey since his enthusiastic welcome," said Said, noting that Salah will continue to be a factor bringing the peoples of the two countries closer.

Recalling that Salah was also popular during his time at Chelsea and Liverpool, Said said, "However, Salah has never before been the subject of such official, political, and diplomatic discourse as he has been in his transfer to Turkey. This confirms that there is an official will to develop political relations between Egypt and Turkey and to support people-to-people ties in an unprecedented way."
