A jeweler in Ankara Sincan, who had gained the trust of his customers, collected their gold and disappeared with approximately 50 million lira in a scam. After hanging a note on his shop door saying 'Closed due to personal health issues' and vanishing, it is alleged that the jeweler fled because of virtual gambling debts. Victims whose savings were lost gathered in front of the shop and stated they had filed complaints.
In Ankara's Sincan district, A.Ö., a 40-year-old jeweler, is alleged to have held onto gold brought by customers for melting or valuation without returning it, keeping it for a certain period and delaying them with various excuses to buy time.
VANISHED WITH 50 MILLION LIRA WORTH OF JEWELRY
It is claimed that A.Ö., who accumulated gold from customers whose trust he gained using this method, stole approximately 50 million lira worth of jewelry in a short time and disappeared. Victims, who stated they have not heard from the jeweler for days and found his shop closed, said they would continue their legal struggle. It was alleged that the note A.Ö. hung on his shop door, reading "Closed due to personal health issues," does not reflect the truth.
"WE FOUND THE SHOP CLOSED WHEN WE CAME"
Victim Yıldız Gök said: "Before the holiday, I gave him 12 quarter gold coins. I had a debt, and in return I was to receive 3 republic gold coins. He did not deliver the gold and kept telling me to come on other days. When we came, we found the shop closed. My gold, saved from my earnings, is gone. We cannot reach him. His phone is off. They say he has fled. These were gold I saved from my monthly wages."
"HE WAS SOMEONE WE TRUSTED"
Yıldız Gök's son, Şahin Gök, said: "My mother and I came here before the holiday. We had 12 quarter gold coins. My mother had a gold debt. We also wanted to consolidate the gold we had. This place belonged to someone we knew. He was someone we trusted. He kept stalling us. Fifteen days passed. When he told us to come the day before the eve, I saw the situation. The shop was closed. We will file a complaint."
"I HEARD HE DID THIS BECAUSE HE PLAYED ONLINE GAMBLING"
Nearby shopkeeper Köksal Çetin stated that it is claimed A.Ö. resorted to this due to online gambling debts, and said: "He was someone we knew. We shopped frequently. He defrauded my friend and many others. We don't know where he is. We can't reach him. I heard he did this because he played online gambling. I knew him for five years. Everyone is looking for him."
