In a statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that "Due to the 6 years and 3 months prison sentence received by Mehmet Alkan, the Mayor of Kağızman district in Kars, under the case numbered 2020/44 of the Kars 2nd Heavy Penal Court for the crime of 'Being a Member of an Armed Terrorist Organization'; Mehmet Alkan has been suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393."
DEPUTY DISTRICT GOVERNOR OKAN DAŞTAN HAS BEEN ASSIGNED IN HIS PLACE
It was stated that "In accordance with Articles 45 and 46 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, Okan Daştan, the District Governor of Kağızman, has been appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Kağızman by the Kars Governorship."
WHO IS MEHMET ALKAN?
Mehmet Alkan, born in 1953 in the village of Kuruyayla, affiliated with Kağızman, completed his primary and secondary education in Kağızman and high school in Iğdır. Alkan, who graduated from Ankara Gazi Education Institute, worked as a teacher for a while. Alkan served as the Mayor of Kağızman between 2009 and 2014.
