The trial of driver Kadir Efe, who is being held on charges of causing the death of 22-year-old medical student Yaren Mercan in a collision between a motorcycle and a car in Kayseri, has been adjourned, while the final images of the deceased Mercan have emerged. The footage shows that medical student Mercan had ridden her motorcycle to a pizzeria before the accident, picked up a pizza, and was heading home when the crash occurred.
In the accident where a motorcycle collided with a car in Kayseri, the trial of driver Kadir Efe, who was arrested for causing the death of medical student Yaren Mercan (22), was adjourned, while the last images of the deceased Mercan emerged.
THROWN METERS AWAY
The accident occurred on March 19 in the evening hours on Sayer Street, Mevlana District, Talas district. The car driven by Kadir Efe with license plate 38 YE 008 collided with the motorcycle driven by Yaren Mercan. The motorcycle driver Mercan, thrown meters away in the accident, was injured. Yaren Mercan, a 4th-year student at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, died the next day at the hospital where she was taken. During the control of Kadir Efe, who was taken into custody, it was determined that he had 1.05 promil alcohol. Mercan was laid to rest in the city cemetery on March 21 after autopsy procedures. At the funeral, a doctor's coat was placed on Yaren Mercan's coffin. The drunk driver Efe was arrested by the court where he was brought.
INDICTMENT PREPARED
The investigation conducted by the Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was completed, and an indictment was prepared. In the indictment accepted by the 25th Criminal Court of First Instance, a penalty was sought for the suspect Efe on the charge of 'causing death by conscious negligence'.
TRIAL BEGAN
In the first hearing of the case held last week at the 25th Criminal Court of First Instance, the arrested defendant Kadir Efe attended from prison via SEGBIS, while the deceased Mercan's complainant mother Binnaz, father Mehmet, sister Büşra, and younger sister Damla Mercan, along with the parties' lawyers, were present in the courtroom. Yaren Mercan's friends from the medical faculty came in doctor's coats to support the Mercan family.
"I WANT MY RELEASE"
Stating that he has been in custody for 3 months and that he did not want this situation, the defendant Kadir Efe said, "I provide for the family. I know I will be punished. I will have another child soon. The incident was entirely a traffic accident. I want my release." The deceased Mercan's complainant family demanded that the defendant be punished in the harshest way. The presiding judge, in an interim ruling, decided to continue the detention of the defendant Efe and adjourned the hearing to resolve the deficiencies.
LAST IMAGES EMERGE
The last images of university student Yaren Mercan, who spent the Ramadan holiday studying in Kayseri, have emerged. In the footage obtained by DHA, Mercan is seen arriving at a pizzeria on her motorcycle, picking up pizza, and leaving the establishment, after which the accident occurred while she was heading home.
