Deobra Delone Redden, who attacked the judge during a hearing in Las Vegas, USA, in January, was sentenced to at least 26 years in prison. In the case heard on Tuesday, Judge Susan Johnson described the 31-year-old Redden as a "criminal with mental illness" and convicted him on a total of seven charges. Redden was also ordered to pay $61,000 in restitution. During the incident in January, Redden jumped over Judge Mary Kay Holthus's desk to attack her and began to be referred to on social media as the "flying crime machine." The attack, which was difficult to stop by security personnel, resulted in Judge Holthus sustaining minor injuries. In his statement during the hearing, Redden claimed, "I am not a bad person. I have had problems since my childhood." However, Judge Johnson rejected this defense, stating based on medical reports that Redden was able to distinguish right from wrong. It was noted that Redden may have a chance for parole in the 2050s.
