Kerem Soran, who ended his 7-year marriage in Eskişehir, distributed 1,500 portions of lokma (fried dough) to the congregation outside a mosque to celebrate his divorce. Soran, who had the LED sign on the lokma truck display 'I'm divorced, I'm free,' thanked the Minister of Justice for the new judicial package.
An extraordinary divorce celebration took place in the Sazova neighborhood of Eskişehir's Tepebaşı district. Kerem Soran, who officially ended his 7-year marriage about 10 months ago, shared his happiness of leaving the process behind by distributing fried dough (lokma). After the noon prayer at Sazova Mosque, Soran stood by the mobile lokma stand he rented at the mosque exit and offered lokma to the congregation. The LED sign on the lokma vehicle reading "I got divorced, I am free" caused surprised looks from the local citizens.
ALSO THANKED THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE
Kerem Soran, who complained about not being able to see his children and enforcement proceedings related to alimony during the divorce process, also touched upon the judicial package containing new regulations regarding divorce/alimony processes. Soran stated that structural changes in the new judicial package, particularly aimed at speeding up prolonged divorce cases, alimony grievances, and family law processes, gave hope to many men like him, and sent a message of support and thanks to Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek.
"I AM FREE, MAY GOD HELP THOSE WHO CANNOT BE FREE"
Expressing that he is very happy to be divorced, Kerem Soran said:
"I divorced my wife about 10 months ago. I cannot see my children. I am paying my alimony. I am free. May God help all our men who cannot be free. We also support our state and our Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek in the 12th Judicial Package. May God help all men who cannot divorce. Thank you. I was married for 7 years. I am very happy."
LOKMA MASTER EXPERIENCES A FIRST IN 20 YEARS
Ali Tamer, a lokma master with 20 years of experience who set up his stand in front of the mosque at Soran's request, stated that he fried lokma for a divorce celebration for the first time in his career.
Tamer, who said they fulfilled their customer's request, noted that they could not hide their surprise at the situation. Regarding the matter, Ali Tamer said, "We have been doing this for 20 years, it's our father's profession. This is the first time something like this has happened to us. Should we say 'get well soon' or 'congratulations' I wonder... Yes, we were surprised. But we have to do whatever the customer says. We will distribute lokma for 1000-1500 people."
