A man in his mid-30s lost his life after being struck by the engine of a plane at Orio al Serio Airport in Milan, Italy, after illegally entering the airport. The incident occurred while an Airbus A319 belonging to Volotea Airlines was preparing for takeoff.
An incredible incident occurred at Orio al Serio Airport (Milan Bergamo) in Milan, Italy. A man, reported to be around 35 years old, lost his life after being sucked into the engine of a plane following an unauthorized entry into the airport.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning at 10:20 local time, as an Airbus A319 belonging to Volotea Airlines was preparing for departure on a flight to Asturias (Spain). At that moment, the unidentified man entered the airport in the wrong direction with his car, abandoned his vehicle, and ran towards the terminal.
After breaching security and reaching the runway where the planes were located, the man could not be stopped despite all police interventions. As he ran towards the plane, he got too close to the engine and was tragically pulled in by the engine, resulting in his death.
Volotea Airlines confirmed the incident, stating that the man had no connection to the plane or the company and was not a passenger.
Following the incident, which caused flights to be halted, nine flights were redirected to other airports, and numerous flights were canceled. Ryanair's flights to many European cities were also affected. The airport operator SACBO announced that the cause of the incident is being investigated by the authorities.
Flights at the airport resumed approximately an hour and a half after the incident.
The event has caused a significant stir not only in Milan but across Europe. Recently, during an evacuation due to a false fire alarm at Palma Airport in Spain, 18 people were injured.
