The assaulted waiter, Zahra, shared a 7-minute video on TikTok after the incident, expressing her discomfort with the Metropolitan Police's response to the situation.

The incident occurred at a restaurant where a family went for dinner. CCTV footage shows the moment when the male customer suddenly hit the waitress Zahra with a plate while she was bringing the order to the table. The footage also captured the assaulted waitress screaming and fleeing, while the family left the restaurant as if nothing had happened.
After the incident, Zahra shared a 7-minute video on TikTok, expressing her discomfort, particularly with the Metropolitan Police's approach to the situation. She stated that the police initially did not take the investigation seriously enough and that it left her feeling disappointed. However, after the footage went viral on social media and there was a strong public outcry, the police reopened the investigation.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police announced that a 32-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday, January 30, in connection with the assault that took place at the Nando's restaurant in Stratford in March 2024. The suspect was released on bail after questioning and will be called back to give a statement again in mid-March as the investigation continues.
Zahra emphasized the importance of sharing her experience to draw attention to the increasing violence against women, young women, and girls. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she received on social media and stated that there needs to be a rise in social awareness to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
The Metropolitan Police also announced that individuals with information about the incident can call 101 or report via the @MetCC social media account with reference number CAD 1872/21Aug. The investigation is still ongoing.
