CAREER IN TURKEY: CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH BEŞİKTAŞ AND GALATASARAY

Lucescu's journey in Turkey coincides with one of the brightest periods in Turkish football history. The successes he achieved with Istanbul's two giants between 2000 and 2004 made him a beloved figure among Turkish fans.

Galatasaray period:

Taking over from Fatih Terim after Galatasaray's UEFA Cup victory was like wearing a shirt made of fire. However, Lucescu quickly adapted the team, defeating Real Madrid and bringing the UEFA Super Cup to Turkey. Then, despite a limited budget, he led Galatasaray to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. After making Galatasaray the Super League champion in the 2001-2002 season, he was unexpectedly dismissed from his position.

Beşiktaş period:

Shortly after leaving Galatasaray, Lucescu joined Beşiktaş, where he built the squad for the club's 100th anniversary. In Beşiktaş's centenary year, he dominated the league with defensive discipline and tactical superiority, leading the team to the championship. He also achieved the success of reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup with the black-and-whites.

TURKEY NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

Mircea Lucescu's journey with the Turkey National Team, in contrast to his immense success with club teams, is more of a story of "restructuring" and "transition." This period, which lasted from 2017 to 2019, was filled with controversies due to the lack of expected results on the field.

AN EMPIRE IN UKRAINE: SHAKHTAR DONETSK

The most stable period of Lucescu's career is his time at Shakhtar Donetsk. He served at the club for a full 12 years from 2004 to 2016. He brought the club 8 league championships and 6 Ukrainian Cups. By winning the UEFA Cup in 2009, he turned Shakhtar into a European brand. His expertise in discovering and nurturing young Brazilian talents (Fernandinho, Willian, Douglas Costa) provided the club with millions of Euros in transfer income.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY AND PERSONALITY

The greatest feature that sets Lucescu apart from others is his ability to use the resources at his disposal in the most efficient way. "Achieving great things with limited budgets" is his area of expertise. "Football is not just played with feet, but is a chess game played with the mind." This famous saying summarizes his tactical approach. Lucescu, who speaks 6 languages fluently and holds degrees in economics and history, has managed to maximize his players' potential through the psychological bond he established with them.
