As claims about certain districts becoming provinces frequently come to the fore, the latest detail from the Turkish Statistical Institute regarding the issue has drawn attention. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) had published certain criteria regarding which districts would become provinces. It was stated that economic criteria are taken into account for a district to become a province, while factors such as education, transportation, social services, and community structure are also considered.

100 THOUSAND POPULATION 30 KM DISTANCE CONDITION

In addition, two more important criteria are required for districts to become provinces. These conditions are that the districts must have a population of 100,000 and be located 30 km away from the provincial center...
