The participation of a father who lost five children in İzmir at the funeral with his hands shackled caused a significant uproar. It has been learned that the hands of the father, who was brought to the funeral of the children who lost their lives in a fire that broke out while they were home alone in the Selçuk district of İzmir, were uncuffed after a phone call from Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç.
In the Selçuk district of İzmir, 27-year-old mother Melisa Sinem Akcan went to collect scrap to earn money. It was learned that Akcan's husband was also in prison for a crime. Akcan locked the door of her makeshift home, which had no windows, and left. The electric heater left on to warm the house caused the tragedy. One-year-old Aras Bulut Akcan, two-year-old Masal Işık, three-year-old Aslan Miraç, four-year-old Funda Peri, and five-year-old Fadime Nefes lost their lives in the fire caused by the overturned electric heater while they were home alone.

The father was also brought to the children's funeral with special permission from prison. However, the fact that the father's hands were handcuffed at the funeral did not go unnoticed. After a while, the footage of the grieving father's handcuffs being removed emerged. While the repercussions of the incident continued, it was learned that the instruction to the prosecutor to "Remove the handcuffs" was given by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, who watched the footage on television.
