Images of numerous supermarket employees fainting due to extreme fatigue prompted action from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. While undercover inspectors sent to the supermarkets began reporting the incidents, it was noted that particularly in three-letter supermarkets, there were no cashier chairs and that shelf staff were being assigned to perform various tasks.

Images of employees who are forced to do the work of several staff members alone in Turkey's famous chain supermarkets, collapsing from exhaustion, continue to be in the spotlight.

MINISTRY TAKES ACTION

Footage from security cameras showing new staff members rebelling and breaking down in tears every day due to tasks that are not part of their job descriptions has prompted the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to take action.

SECRET INSPECTORS SENT

According to a report in the Sabah newspaper, the ministry has started sending secret inspectors to chain supermarkets to examine the working conditions of employees. The appointed individuals closely monitor working hours and check whether employees are utilizing their break times.

NO CHAIRS IN 3-LETTER SUPERMARKETS

During inspections, it was observed that some chain supermarkets had chairs at their cash registers, while it was noted that especially 3-letter chain supermarkets did not have chairs at their cash registers.

SERIOUS ISSUES WITH JOB DESCRIPTIONS

While industry experts point out that there should be a chair arrangement at the cash registers of supermarkets, there are also issues related to the job descriptions of employees working in supermarkets. A worker is assigned to handle the cash register, the shelves, and the transfer of products arriving at the store to the warehouse all at the same time.

LEGAL REGULATION BEING PREPARED

An employee who thinks they will be working at the cash register may suddenly find themselves carrying products to the warehouse. According to information obtained, the ministry is also preparing to make a legal regulation regarding this matter.
