Emine Kinvan, who does not want her severely autistic son Muhammet to be transferred to another city, went to the cliffs to make her voice heard. After the incident, the Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, intervened, halting the transfer and ordering Muhammet to be placed in a care center in Manavgat.

Emine Kinvan, the mother of 19-year-old Muhammet, who has severe autism and has been staying at a care center in Antalya for about 6 months, wanted to make her voice heard by going to the cliffs yesterday, as she did not want her son to be transferred to Ordu and had not received any results from her applications. Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, who heard the mother's voice after she cried for a long time and was difficult to convince, ordered the halt of Muhammet's transfer and his placement in a center in Manavgat.

The eldest of the three children of Emine and Süleyman Kinvan, who live in the Kepez district, Muhammet was taken to the doctor by his family when he was 3 years old due to concerns about his movements. During the examination, Muhammet was diagnosed with severe autism. After this diagnosis, the family's life changed. The couple later had two more children, whom they named Ayşegül and Şeyma. Ayşegül was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes, and Şeyma was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. In the last 2 years, Muhammet, who has exhibited aggressive behaviors, assaulted his teachers at the school he attended, and has recently started to assault family members and occasionally damage household items, was placed in a care center last August at the request of his family and with the intervention of the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services.

DIFFICULT TO CONVINCE

Muhammet, who has been staying at the care home for 6 months, met with his family and siblings who came to see him on visiting days. Mother Emine Kinvan, on the other hand, started going to the care center from time to time to see her son from a distance. However, Kinvan recently stated that she was shocked by a phone call informing her that Muhammet would be sent to another city. Kinvan, who explained that her son would be sent to a city miles away because he could not adapt, requested help, stating that she would not be able to see her child. Wanting to make her voice heard, Emine Kinvan went to the cliffs yesterday. She went to the edge of the cliff, which is about 40 meters high, and stated that she wanted her child to stay in Antalya. After approximately 2.5 hours of efforts, she was finally convinced.

TRANSFER HALTED

Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş intervened in the situation. According to information obtained from the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Minister Göktaş ordered that Muhammet Kinvan should not be transferred to another city and should be placed in a new care and rehabilitation center in Manavgat to avoid being separated from his mother. Ministry officials communicated with the family, informing them that the transfer process was halted to preserve family integrity and to ensure that Muhammet does not distance himself from his mother. With the instruction of Minister Göktaş, while Muhammet will be placed in a care and rehabilitation center in Manavgat, the family will also be provided with the necessary psychosocial support services to continue the process in the healthiest way possible.
