The Ministry of Trade announced that, considering the cold weather and frost events, the lemon export will be temporarily halted starting from tomorrow (April 8) in order to maintain the balance of domestic supply and demand and prioritize supply security.
LEMON EXPORT WILL BE HALTED STARTING FROM TOMORROW
In a statement made by the Ministry of Trade, the following was stated: "Considering the cold weather and frost events experienced in certain regions of our country recently, a decision has been made to halt lemon exports starting from April 8, 2025, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, with the aim of maintaining the balance of domestic supply and demand for lemon products and prioritizing supply security.
As is known, in order to ensure food supply security, the balance of supply and demand for agricultural products and food items, as well as domestic and international price developments, are closely monitored by the relevant authorities. In this context, in order to protect and increase domestic production and to prevent speculative price increases, trade policy tools may be utilized by our Ministry of Trade in coordination with the relevant institutions if necessary.
FROST EVENTS HAVE HAD AN IMPACT
On the other hand, as a result of the studies conducted with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the frost events that occurred recently, especially in our provinces of Adana, Mersin, and Hatay, it has been concluded that it is beneficial to take necessary precautions.
In this framework, as a result of the coordination with our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a decision has been made to temporarily halt the export of lemon products from our country starting from April 8, 2025. Market conditions will be closely monitored, and if necessary, additional measures will be evaluated.
In the upcoming period, our Ministry of Trade will continue to work in strong cooperation with relevant public and private sector organizations, especially the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, to protect food supply and security, facilitate access to food at reasonable prices for our people, and prevent potential manipulative situations in food markets, by resolutely applying all policy measures and control tools as before."
