The famous poet Sezai Karakoç's muse, Muazzez Akkaya Giray, for whom he wrote the poem 'Mona Roza,' has passed away at the age of 95. Giray, who had been undergoing cancer treatment for some time, will be laid to rest at Karacaahmet Cemetery on Monday, June 9.

Muazzez Akkaya Giray, who was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer about a year ago and underwent treatment for a while, passed away at her home in Istanbul. It has been learned that her body will be buried at Karacaahmet Cemetery following the funeral prayer to be held at Fenerbahçe Mosque after the noon prayer on June 9, Monday.

WHO IS MUAZZEZ AKKAYA GİRAY?

Muazzez Akkaya Giray was born in 1930 in the Geyve district of Sakarya. After graduating from Kandilli Girls' High School as a boarder in 1948, she entered the Finance Department of the Mülkiye School in Ankara in 1949. Giray studied in the same class as two famous Turkish poets, Sezai Karakoç and Cemal Süreya, at this school.

Muazzez Akkaya Giray graduated from the Mülkiye School and the Ankara University Faculty of Law, where she took supplementary courses, in 1954, and she worked as a treasury lawyer.
