The bodies of the mother, father, nephew, and the mother's sister, who drowned in the sea while trying to cool off in Mersin, were laid to rest amidst cries of lament.
In the Tarsus district of Mersin, a mother, father, aunt, and nephew who drowned after being caught by waves while entering the sea to cool off were sent off on their final journey side by side amidst tears and cries.
FUNERAL PRAYER LED BY DISTRICT MUFTI Following the incident, the autopsies of father Savaş Öztürk (42), mother Zehra Öztürk (39), aunt Ceylan Dağşan (30), and 16-year-old nephew Halil Öztürk were completed, and their bodies were brought to Tarsus City Cemetery. The funeral prayer for the four family members, placed side by side on the washing stone, was led by Tarsus District Mufti Murat Akçay. After seeking forgiveness and the prayer, the bodies were taken to Sucular Cemetery amidst tears and cries and laid to rest with prayers.
MANY CITIZENS ATTENDED The funeral, which plunged Tarsus into mourning, was attended by Tarsus District Governor Mehmet Ali Akyüz, AK Party Mersin Deputy Hasan Ufuk Çakır, district protocol, many citizens, and grieving family relatives.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FAMILY TRAGEDY? In the incident that occurred yesterday evening on the coast of Kulak Neighborhood in Tarsus district, a family of five, who entered the sea to cool off, disappeared after being caught by waves. Following reports from those nearby, search and rescue operations were conducted by Coast Guard, AFAD, police underwater, fire brigade, and gendarmerie teams dispatched to the area. 16-year-old Fatma Öztürk was rescued alive from the sea with the help of citizens, taken to the hospital, and placed under treatment. The lifeless bodies of mother Zehra Öztürk, father Savaş Öztürk, and aunt Ceylan Dağşan were reached shortly after. The lifeless body of 16-year-old nephew Halil Öztürk, who was caught in the current, was found as a result of the teams' efforts throughout the night. It was reported that the health condition of 16-year-old Fatma Öztürk, the sole surviving family member still receiving treatment in the hospital, is good.
