The mother of the newborn baby, who was found dead in a trash container in the Izmit district of Kocaeli on May 27, 2007, was identified and arrested 18 years later. During her interrogation, she confessed to strangling her baby to death.
E.N.Ö. (41), who killed her newborn baby and threw it into a trash container in İzmit district of Kocaeli, was identified and arrested 18 years later.
On May 27, 2007, a dead newborn baby girl was found in the trash in Yahyakaptan neighborhood of İzmit district. The baby's body was buried in the Cemetery for the Unclaimed, operated by the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality. The case remained unsolved.
CASE REOPENED
The Homicide Bureau of the Public Security Branch of the Kocaeli Police Department reopened the case 8 months ago. All suspects from the closed case were re-interrogated, and the evidence collected at the time of the incident was re-examined. In the 8-month investigation, the fingerprint found in the box where the baby was discovered in the trash matched E.N.Ö.'s fingerprint. It was determined that E.N.Ö. was the baby's mother.
SHE CONFESSED TO THE BRUTALITY
E.N.Ö., who was caught in Sapanca district of Sakarya, confessed during her interrogation at the police station that she strangled her baby with the umbilical cord and threw it away. E.N.Ö. stated that the baby was born out of wedlock at the time of the incident but did not provide information about the baby's father. E.N.Ö., whose DNA also matched that of the baby, was arrested by the court to which she was brought.
