The explosion, caused by the trapping of methane gas, resulted in the deaths of 52 workers who were working in Block B, and 17 workers were injured. The mine supplies 76% of the country's coal needs. "A TOTAL OF 69 WORKERS WERE WORKING IN 2 BLOCKS"South Khorasan Governor Javad Genaat stated in a related announcement, "The explosion occurred in Blocks B and C of the coal mine. A total of 69 workers were working in the two blocks. Currently, there is a significant accumulation of gas in Block C, and our teams are trying to evacuate this gas. Once the gas is completely evacuated, we will continue rescue operations for the workers inside."
