THOUSANDS OF BUILDINGS COLLAPSED, TENS OF THOUSANDS LEFT HOMELESS
The two powerful earthquakes that occurred on June 24, just 39 seconds apart, caused massive destruction in the northern part of the country, especially in La Guaira and Caracas. While approximately 59 thousand buildings were reported to have collapsed or sustained heavy damage, tens of thousands of people were left homeless.
INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT CONTINUES
Following the earthquakes, search and rescue and humanitarian aid teams from more than 50 countries arrived in Venezuela. As field hospitals are set up, the burden on the healthcare system increases daily. Experts warn of the risk of epidemics due to difficulties in accessing clean water and health services.
SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS CONTINUE
Authorities stated that efforts to reach people trapped under rubble in some areas continue, and it was noted that individuals rescued alive from the debris in recent days have raised hopes. However, it is reported that the likelihood of reaching the missing is decreasing over time due to the elapsed time.
