The obligation for workplaces to employ a safety expert is starting.

With the amendment to the Occupational Health and Safety Law, new obligations are being introduced for workplaces. It has now become mandatory for all workplaces to employ a workplace safety specialist. This new implementation aims to prevent workplace accidents and enhance the safety of employees.

The Occupational Health and Safety Law was amended in the Official Gazette on June 30, 2012. The Law No. 6331 on Occupational Health and Safety, which has been postponed for 12 years, came into force again as of January 1, 2025. Accordingly, even tradesmen employing less than 50 people and classified as low-risk must have a safety expert.

PENALTY OF 176 THOUSAND LIRA FOR BUSINESSES WITHOUT CERTIFICATION

All businesses, including grocery stores, pharmacies, butchers, tailors, and hairdressers, are required to have a safety expert in their shops. It is known that a business owner who does not have a safety expert or certification for their business will face a penalty of 176 thousand lira. However, due to both cost and a lack of experts, an alternative method has been developed for small tradesmen. Subsequently, all businesses were allowed to obtain this certification through 'online training', and a collaboration was established with Anadolu University in this context.

ANADOLU UNIVERSITY WILL PROVIDE TRAINING FOR TRADESMEN

In a statement from Anadolu University, it was noted that the training would be conducted online, and participants would be eligible to receive the certification by scoring at least 50 out of 100 points. Additionally, the application dates will be between February 3 and February 28, 2025. The registration fee has been set at 750 lira. Exam results will be reported to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. To register for the program, one must be at least 18 years old, and no diploma degree is required.

Employers or their representatives who are eligible to receive the 'Completion Certificate for Employer or Employer Representative Training on the Implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Services' will be able to conduct occupational health and safety services themselves, provided they electronically register their information in the ISG-KATIP system via the internet.
