Greece has deployed an MIM-104 Patriot missile battery to Karpas Peninsula due to Iran's threats against U.S. targets. Greece had previously sent two frigates and four F-16 fighter jets to the Greek Cypriot Administration for defense support.
While the tension that began with the attacks of the US and Israel on Iran continues; a new move against Iran has come from the neighboring country Greece.
PATRIOT MISSILES DEPLOYED
It was reported that the Patriot air defense missile battery belonging to Greece has reached Kerpe Island. In news reports from the Greek press, it was claimed that Iran's threats against US targets necessitated the deployment of the Patriot air defense missile battery to Kerpe Island.
In the news, it was argued that this decision was made within the framework of the need to increase Greece's air defense capability due to the chaos in the Middle East, and it was claimed that the placement of the MIM-104 Patriot air defense missile battery on Kerpe Island, located between the islands of Crete and Rhodes, would contribute to the air defense capability of the southeastern Aegean.
SENT SUPPORT TO SOUTH CYPRUS
Greece, which dispatched the MIM-104 Patriot air defense missile battery to Kerpe Island, had previously sent two frigates and 4 F-16 fighter jets to the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) to provide defense support.
US-ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON IRAN
Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on February 28 while negotiations were ongoing between the Tehran and Washington administrations.
Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in some regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel.
In the US-Israel attacks, many high-ranking officials, including Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were killed.
Iran's Health Ministry Spokesman Hossein Kermanpur announced that 867 people lost their lives in the US-Israel attacks.
