In New Mexico, two siblings aged 7 and 9 faced police intervention after refusing to drop a real gun they were holding. The children, seen in Minecraft and Star Wars-themed pajamas, did not comply with the police's calm approach and warnings to put down the weapon.

In a shocking incident in New Mexico, two young children aged 7 and 9 faced police intervention when they refused to drop a real gun they were holding.

In footage shared by the Sheriff's Office, the children are seen hiding behind an air conditioning unit outside a building. The two siblings were holding a loaded gun while wearing Minecraft and Star Wars-themed pajamas.

Police initially tried to approach the children calmly. Body camera footage captures an officer saying, "Drop it, sweetheart. You're not in trouble, just put down the gun and talk to us."

However, after the children refused to drop the gun, the police had to use rubber bullets. Despite this, the children did not relinquish the weapon. Eventually, the police surrounded them and safely took the gun away.

Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen stated that the incident occurred on February 16 and that they had received dozens of complaints about this house before. Allen remarked, "This incident illustrates the complex relationship between juvenile crime, mental health, and public safety."

Surprisingly, the two children were not arrested or taken from their families. Only the gun was confiscated. Sheriff Allen defended this decision by saying, "Children are our future. Some will say 'put them in jail,' but they are just 7 and 9 years old."

The police department noted that they were able to resolve the situation without it escalating into a deadly confrontation thanks to drone technology, and they are now providing the necessary psychological support to the children.

How the children obtained the gun remains unknown.
