Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi reminded law enforcement units of the official identity document status of the press card with a directive he sent. Accordingly, it was stated that individuals presenting a valid press card should not be asked for additional identification.
With a letter sent by the Ministry of Interior to law enforcement units, an important regulation concerning press members was announced. In the letter signed by Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, it was emphasized that a properly issued press card should be accepted as an official identity document.
OPEN INSTRUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT UNITS
In the letter communicated through the General Directorate of Provincial Administration, it was requested that no additional identity card or other identification document be demanded from individuals presenting a press card. This regulation aims to enable journalists working in the field to carry out their tasks more quickly and smoothly.
EMPHASIS ON "OFFICIAL IDENTITY DOCUMENT"
The letter reminded that the press card is not only a professional document but also has the quality of an official identity. It was stated that these cards issued by the Presidency of Communications should be accepted as valid by all public and private institutions.
LEGAL BASIS REMINDER
It was expressed that with the amendment made to the Press Law No. 5187 on October 13, 2022, it was clearly stipulated that the press card is an official identity document. Additionally, referencing the Press Card Regulation, it was emphasized that the card can be used alone in identity verification processes.
The new regulation aims to reduce the bureaucratic obstacles faced by press members while performing their duties and to ensure that the public oversight function is carried out more effectively.
