In the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting, the proposal for a 21.29% increase in public transportation fares was rejected.
İBB'S REQUEST FOR INCREASE
During the meeting, İBB requested a 21.29% increase in fares for public transportation vehicles, taxis, school, and personnel service fees. In this context, it was requested that the electronic full ticket price be increased from 27 lira to 32.75 lira. For taxis, it was requested that the initial meter fare be increased from 42 lira to 50.94 lira, the distance fee from 28 lira per kilometer to 33.96 lira, the time tariff fee from 350 lira per hour to 424.51 lira, and the short distance fee from 135 lira to 163.74 lira.
In maritime transportation, it was requested that the Üsküdar-Eminönü route fare be increased from 34.20 lira to 41.48 lira, the Kadıköy-Eminönü and Kadıköy-Beşiktaş routes from 38.11 lira to 46.22 lira, and the Bostancı-Adalar route from 100.45 lira to 121.84 lira. REQUEST FOR A 30% INCREASE FROM EYÜP AKSU
Eyüp Aksu, President of the Istanbul Taxi Drivers' Chamber (İTEO), mentioned the expenses and stated that İBB's 21.29% increase was insufficient: "We are requesting a 30% increase."
Serdar Yücel, the 1st Regional Director of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, stated that the formulation determining the increase was the result of scientific research. Yücel explained that although the increase rate in the formulation was determined to be 15.3% in January during the UKOME meeting, a one-time increase of 35% was made due to the current economic conditions, noting that the issue of fare increases had turned into a bad habit. Yücel stated, "Our stance is clear; we do not see fare increases for public transportation as a topic of discussion. As a ministry, we currently believe that it is not appropriate to make an increase." After the discussions, the proposal for a 21.29% increase in İBB's transportation fares was rejected by a majority vote. The last fare increase for public transportation in Istanbul was 35% on January 15.
