A prosecutor in the state of Rhode Island, USA, was detained by police for unauthorized entry into a restaurant. Prosecutor Devon Flanagan told the officers, "I am a prosecutor, you will regret this," and requested them to turn off their body cameras. However, this request was denied, and Flanagan was suspended without pay. Attorney General Peter Neronha criticized Flanagan's behavior harshly and stated that Flanagan's reputation has been largely damaged.

A prosecutor in the state of Rhode Island, USA, caused a scene while being detained by the police, saying, "I am a prosecutor, you will regret this," as the incident unfolded. As the footage quickly spread on social media, prosecutor Devon Flanagan was suspended without pay.

Flanagan was detained on August 14 for allegedly trespassing in a restaurant, where he argued with the police and demanded to be released by stating that he was a prosecutor. However, as the police continued to detain him, Flanagan was heard shouting, "I work in the attorney general's office, you are making a mistake." One police officer calmly responded, "I don't care."

During the incident, Flanagan also requested the police to turn off their body cameras, but the Attorney General's office stated that this was legally incorrect.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha harshly criticized the events:

"I have 110 lawyers, and he has embarrassed them all. Such behavior is unacceptable. He will definitely face severe punishment."

Neronha mentioned that he believed Flanagan might have been under the influence of alcohol during the incident, but emphasized that this could not be an excuse. He also apologized to the Newport Police Department, stating that Flanagan had significantly damaged his reputation:

"He has disgraced himself. Whether he continues his job or not, it will take a long time for him to get over this incident."

For now, it is unclear whether Flanagan will return to his position.
