Ömer Deniz Kocadon, a boat captain living in Muğla, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in a case where he was accused of sexually abusing his daughter's 17-year-old friend, B.Y.B. After going out to have fun with his daughter and her friend, Kocadon returned home, and allegedly went to the room where B.Y.B. was staying after his daughter fell asleep, and committed sexual abuse.

40-year-old captain Ömer Deniz Kocadon, who lives in Bodrum, went out to have fun with his daughter P.N.K. (17) and her friend B.Y.B. (17) on June 28, 2024, to a venue operating in the city center. At the end of the night, Kocadon returned home in the Umurca neighborhood with his daughter and her friend. It is alleged that after his daughter fell asleep, Ömer Deniz Kocadon went to the room where B.Y.B. was staying and sexually assaulted her. B.Y.B. told her mother S.B. about the situation. Mother S.B. filed a complaint with the police.

'I HAVE BEEN SLANDERED'

Following the complaint, the police detained Ömer Deniz Kocadon. In his statement, Kocadon denied the allegations against him, saying, "We slept in separate rooms. I have been slandered." After his procedures at the police station, Ömer Deniz Kocadon was referred to the courthouse on June 30, 2024, and was arrested by the court.

HE RECEIVED 16 YEARS IN PRISON

Yesterday, the detained defendant Kocadon appeared before the judge for the fifth time at the Bodrum 1st Heavy Penal Court. In addition to the detained defendant, his lawyers attended the hearing. After the defense of the lawyers and the detained defendant, the court announced its decision. The court sentenced Ömer Deniz Kocadon to 16 years in prison and decided to continue his detention.

"WE HAVE PASSED AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE"

After the decision, a statement from the Bodrum Women's Solidarity Association said, "Today, we have passed an important milestone in the fight for true justice alongside the child who has been subjected to crime. Despite all the difficulties encountered during the prosecution of crimes committed against women and children, we have taken our place in the child's struggle with resilience and determination. In this case, despite all the intimidation, defamation, and isolation campaigns initiated by the perpetrator's own relatives against the sexual assault crime committed by a 39-year-old adult male against a 16-year-old child at the time of the incident, the victim child and her mother never remained silent and did not give up on their legal struggle," it stated.
