The statement made by the leader of the Great Unity Party (BBP), Mustafa Destici, about his daughter getting a job in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) and her salary being reduced to 37,500 TL after deductions, caused controversy. Journalist Kübra Par asked Destici in the studio, "If 600 members of parliament like you start employing their children in the Assembly, how will the children of this nation find jobs?" This question led to tense moments in the studio. Destici replied to Par, "You are making an intentional broadcast. I have never been involved in any wrongdoing until today."
The appointment of Hilal Destici, the daughter of the leader of the Great Unity Party, Mustafa Destici, to work in the Turkish Grand National Assembly had sparked reactions. During a tv100 broadcast on the subject, tensions occasionally rose between Destici and Kübra Par.
"Without going into details, let me state that she started working according to the law and regulations. I shared how much salary she receives yesterday, along with her pay slip," said Destici. Kübra Par responded to Destici, saying, "You said she receives 37,500 TL, not 100,000 TL." Destici replied, "I stated that this is the amount she receives after deductions. I showed her pay slip yesterday."
"IF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT EMPLOY THEIR CHILDREN IN THE ASSEMBLY, HOW WILL THE CHILDREN OF THIS NATION FIND JOBS?"
Kübra Par asked Destici, "Mustafa Bey, you are an experienced politician. You are the leader of a party. If 600 members of parliament, including yourself, employ their children to work in the Assembly so that they gain experience and contribute to the national will, how can we convince the young people of this country, who are unemployed, that they will find jobs based on their qualifications? This is my first question. If your daughter, as the daughter of a party leader and a member of parliament, may deserve it and may have graduated from the best universities in Turkey with top honors, but if a politician employs their daughter, a member of parliament employs their daughter, how can we convince the 3 million unemployed youth in this country that they will find jobs based on their qualifications? This is my question," she asked.
Destici responded, "Let me tell you. You know me, everyone knows me, that I am a politician who helps anyone in need, anyone who is in a difficult situation, anyone who needs a job. If you are saying that the daughters of politicians should stay at home... and not work anywhere, let's consider that as well," he said.
Par replied to Destici's words, saying, "No, never. What does that have to do with it? Then every member of parliament should employ their daughters in the Assembly. Every mayor should employ their children in the municipality where they work. Let's say 'How nice, they also have the right to work' and move on," she said.
"THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I SEE YOU LIKE THIS" REACTION
Destici then said, "Kübra Hanım, you are not letting me speak. Secondly, you are not listening. Thirdly, this is the first time I see you like this. You are intentionally making a biased broadcast. I had doubts about participating in this broadcast. I expressed this to my colleagues as well. But I have no choice but to participate in the broadcast. Because I have a clear conscience and a strong stance. I said this yesterday as well, my family and I, I give everyone the response they deserve. I have never been the recipient of any question that I cannot answer. Because I have never been involved in any wrongdoing until today," he said.
In his continued speech, Destici said, "I have always told the truth. I have always stood by the poor, the needy, the minimum wage earners, and everyone who needs and demands help. Now, I am saying it once again. Listen to me, let everyone listen. There are more than 5,000 personnel. My child entered just like those personnel did, according to the same procedures, laws, and regulations. She did not enter with any privilege," he said.
"THERE IS AN UNETHICAL SITUATION"
Kübra Par responded, saying, "There is no issue here concerning you personally. Please do not perceive my words as directed towards you or your party. However, just last week, we strongly criticized the CHP (Republican People's Party) members of parliament for employing their relatives in the municipalities governed by CHP mayors and then saying, 'Why shouldn't these young people get jobs?' The issue here is not about the party. It's also a pity for your daughter. Is she considering resigning?" Destici replied, "There is no unethical situation here. There is no lack of conscience, no illegal situation," he said.
