In a high school in Giresun, a private security officer named Abdullah Turan shot and killed a cleaning staff member and his sister during an argument. After the incident, Turan was arrested and claimed that the dispute stemmed from a debt issue. Meanwhile, it was learned that the deceased, Yonca Çavuş, was a mother of two children, one of whom is disabled, and that her sister, Rana Çavuş Gökçin, was preparing for her wedding.
Abdullah Turan (53), a private security officer who shot and killed the cleaning staff member Yonca Çavuş (30) and her sister Rana Çavuş Gökçin (26) during an argument in the canteen of the high school where he worked in Giresun, has been arrested. Turan stated that the argument arose due to a 'debt'.
The incident occurred yesterday morning in the canteen of the high school located in Aksu Neighborhood. Abdullah Turan, who was released from prison a while ago and was hired as a private security personnel at the high school under the decree law No. 696, argued with Yonca Çavuş and her sister Rana Çavuş Gökçin, who worked as cleaning staff at the school, for an unknown reason. As the argument escalated, Abdullah Turan fired at the sisters with a gun and fled the school. While the sisters collapsed to the ground, health and police teams were dispatched to the school upon notification. Health officials determined that Yonca Çavuş had died at the scene. The injured Rana Çavuş Gökçin was also taken to Giresun Education and Research Hospital by ambulance. Gökçin, who underwent surgery, could not be saved. The suspect Abdullah Turan was captured, and education at the school was suspended after the incident.
WAS PREPARING FOR A WEDDING
While the Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office continues its investigation into the incident, it has emerged that Yonca Çavuş, who had recently divorced her husband, was the mother of two children, one of whom is disabled; and her sister Rana Çavuş Gökçin was preparing for their wedding, which was to be held in a month, with her legally married husband, non-commissioned officer Yusuf Gökçin.
SISTERS BURIED
A funeral prayer was held for Yonca Çavuş and her sister Rana Çavuş Gökçin in the Keşap district. The funeral was attended by Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti, CHP Giresun Deputy Elvan Işık Gezmiş, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Özgür Özer, non-commissioned officer Yusuf Gökçin, the families of the sisters, and many others. Governor Serdengeçti expressed his condolences to the family members. After the funeral prayers led by Provincial Mufti Selçuk Kılıçbay, the sisters were buried in the family cemetery.
ARRESTED
Abdullah Turan, the murder suspect who was taken into custody, was arrested by the on-duty magistrate after being brought to the courthouse yesterday evening. It was learned that Turan stated in his testimony that there was a 'debt' issue between him and the sisters, and that the argument arose for this reason.
