MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli evaluated the passage of the framework law regarding the terror-free Türkiye process in the Turkish Grand National Assembly with 467 votes. Stating that the decision contributed to a broad social consensus, Bahçeli said, 'Honestly, I was not expecting the figure of 467 either. An acceptance at this level has facilitated the expansion of social consensus and the strengthening of solidarity.'
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made assessments on critical agenda items, ranging from the acceptance rate of the legal regulation regarding the Terror-Free Turkey process in Parliament to the Mecca Agreement, and from public opinion surveys to new constitution efforts.
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli made statements to Habertürk TV Ankara Representative Nasuhi Güngör, delivering important messages regarding Turkey's and the region's agenda. Evaluating the legal steps strengthening the Terror-Free Turkey process and international alliance initiatives, Bahçeli also reiterated his call for a legal regulation concerning public opinion research companies.
"I WAS NOT EXPECTING THE FIGURE 467 EITHER"
Evaluating the approval of the framework law regarding the Terror-Free Turkey process with 467 votes in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Bahçeli emphasized that the outcome strengthened social consensus: "Frankly, I was not expecting the figure 467 either. An acceptance at this level facilitated the expansion of social consensus and the strengthening of solidarity. This is a matter that makes this process extraordinarily strong."
Stating that the process has increased integration with the people of the region, the MHP leader noted that intense visits from tribal leaders, opinion leaders, and different segments of society have been made to party organizations in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.
MECCA DEFENSE ALLIANCE AND THE ISLAMIC WORLD
Expressing that the Mecca Agreement is a historic step, Bahçeli drew attention to the fact that Islamic countries cannot adequately utilize their potential. Emphasizing the importance of Turkey's leadership, Bahçeli used the following statements: "Muslim countries attract attention with their populations and underground resources, but they cannot utilize the potential they possess. They cannot bring forth a leading country against the West. If these efforts are carried out under Turkey's leadership, this situation will move us to the center and make us much more respectable in the world. The Islamic world will also greatly benefit from this. The steps taken are important; along with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, this alliance will become much stronger with other countries."
FUNCTIONING OF THE SYSTEM AND THE NEW CONSTITUTION
Stating that it would be beneficial to review some aspects of the government system in practice, Bahçeli noted that a new constitution is needed for the system to function healthily.
REACTION TO PUBLIC OPINION SURVEYS AND IDENTITY DEBATES IN SPORTS
Advocating that public opinion surveys should be placed on a legal basis, Bahçeli warned against perception operations. He made harsh criticisms regarding the Amedspor survey and survey studies on religious life:
- Call for Legal Regulation: "It is not right for anyone who comes along to conduct research and announce it. Are these public opinion surveys, or are they efforts to shape public opinion and create perception? Public opinion surveys must definitely be addressed with a solid legal regulation."
- Warning on Ethnic Identity in Sports: "It is a grave mistake to say that politics, sports, and identity are intertwined based on a survey of unclear nature, and to equate sports with identity. Sports is an activity that unites, integrates, and should embrace everyone. Efforts to integrate it with identity will lead Turkey to a different place."
- 'Fifth Column' Criticism of Religious Surveys: "Showing our nation as a rootless, characterless, irreligious society under the guise of Islamic research is a great distortion and a fifth column activity. The Turkish nation is faithful, moral, and devout; it is attached and loyal to its religion, its piety, its traditional values, and its cultural heritage."
