The Saadet Party's Ortahisar District Presidency protested the economic policies of the AK Party government by throwing a cash register 23 years later. District President Burak Turhan stated, "Now, it's not salaries that are being discussed, but debts. There is no food in the pots, only cries are boiling. The salary of minimum wage earners disappears before it even reaches their pockets. The meager savings of retirees are not enough to meet their basic needs. Our youth cannot find jobs, cannot establish homes, and cannot see their future in this land."

THEY UNFURLED A BANNER SAYING "INFLATION IS DRIVING US CRAZY"

Gathered on Uzun Street in Trabzon, Saadet Party members walked to the park where the press statement would be made, carrying a banner that read 'inflation is driving us crazy' and pushing a wheelbarrow with a kitchen gas cylinder and a sack of coal. Burak Turhan, the Saadet Party Ortahisar District President, stated the following; "The lightning-fast tax implementations that go beyond tightening the people's belts, the palace reigns, royal banquets, and austerity policies have stolen not only our pockets but also our hopes. Even official figures cannot hide the truth; inflation has exceeded 70%, but let’s not get caught up in these numbers because the real inflation in the market, at home, is far beyond 100%. Buying a kilo of meat has become a dream; even buying a liter of milk is a luxury.

“WE HAVE TO THINK HARD JUST TO BUY A LOAF OF BREAD”

Our citizens are forced to think hard even to buy a loaf of bread, but the government’s mind is still on the rent system, fake cheap markets, and distorted production policies. While the people's concern is to fill their stomachs, their concern is to fill the pockets of their allies. Now, it’s not salaries that are discussed, but debts. There is no food in the pots, only cries are boiling. The salary of minimum wage earners disappears before it even reaches their pockets. The few pennies of retirees are not enough to meet their basic needs. Our youth cannot find jobs, cannot establish homes, and cannot see their future in this land.

“UNEMPLOYMENT HAS DESCENDED LIKE A NIGHTMARE ON OUR PEOPLE”

While declaring our own youth unemployed, we ask those who raise their children in luxury abroad; is the cry of the people foreign to you? Or have you become blind enough to escape the realities of this country? Today, we encounter the same picture on every street in Turkey; the tears of mothers who cannot find a slice of bread for their children, the exhaustion of fathers who cannot make ends meet, the hopeless faces of the youth. Unemployment, financial difficulties, and inflation have descended like a nightmare on our people.

“THERE IS HUNGER IN THE STREETS, DARKNESS IN THE HOMES”

Our educated youth are exhausting their hopes in this country. Seeking a future abroad has become synonymous with escaping from this land. Those who leave are leaving, while those who remain are trying to survive in debt and scarcity. While our nation becomes poorer every day, those who govern this country have isolated themselves in their palaces. There is hunger in the streets, darkness in the homes, but in their world, they only care about their seats. We promise our people from here; as the Saadet Party, we will fight to change this dark picture, to rebuild the prosperity and peace of our nation. We will protect the rights of our people with a fair system and a production-oriented economic model, and together we will build a Turkey that rewards labor. Our concern is not the seat; it is the people's table, the future of the youth, and the smiles of the children.

IT WAS THROWN IN FRONT OF ECEVIT 23 YEARS AGO

Ahmet Çakmak became one of the symbols of Turkish political history in 2001 by throwing a cash register in front of then-Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit from the steps of the Prime Ministry building. That act of Çakmak also highlighted the crisis that the Turkish economy was experiencing at that time.
