In Çanakkale, an important step was taken in the fight against the brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) by releasing samurai wasps.

Efforts to combat the brown marmorated stink bug have begun in Çanakkale. Within the framework of the 'National Integrated Pest Management Project for the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug,' supported by the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) and coordinated by the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, the release of the samurai wasp (Trissolcus japonicus) for biological control was carried out.

SIMULTANEOUS RELEASE IN 5 DISTRICTS

The samurai wasps, beneficial insects obtained from the Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute, were released simultaneously into nature in a total of 5,000 individuals in the central district, Bayramiç, Lapseki, Ezine, and Biga districts, where trapping and monitoring studies against the brown marmorated stink bug are also being conducted.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AND SUSTAINABLE CONTROL

The samurai wasp, which suppresses the population of the brown marmorated stink bug by parasitizing its eggs, is effectively used in biological control efforts, one of the environmentally friendly methods. In a post made on the social media account of the Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, the following statements were included: 'Our goal: reducing the need for chemical control, protecting the natural balance, and supporting sustainable agricultural production. Our biological and biotechnical control efforts by provincial and district directorates will continue with determination.'
