SCANDALOUS IMAGES COST A FORTUNE
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that an investigation has been launched regarding a female lawyer in Izmir due to the videos she shared on her social media accounts.
"THE BAR ASSOCIATION HAS INITIATED AN INQUIRY"
Tunç stated, "An investigation has been initiated by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the lawyer who has not behaved in a manner appropriate to the dignity of the legal profession with her social media posts."
The relevant bar association has also initiated a disciplinary process to examine whether her actions constitute a violation of professional rules and to make the necessary evaluations." he added.
Tunç's full statement is as follows: "Article 1 of the Attorneyship Law clearly emphasizes that the practice of law is a public service; and that the lawyer freely represents the independent defense, which is one of the founding elements of the judiciary.
The responsibility imposed by being a founding element of the judiciary requires lawyers not only to defend the rights they represent but also to strengthen the trust in justice.
Any attitude that undermines the seriousness of the law and opens the door to misinterpretation of legal provisions in an arbitrary manner harms the public's faith in justice.
Article 34 of the Attorneyship Law is based on the principle that the attorneyship duty should be carried out with care, accuracy, and honor; that it should be conducted in accordance with the respect and trust required by the title of attorney; and that adherence to professional rules is essential. The professional rules of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations also require that the lawyer avoids attitudes and behaviors that would undermine the reputation of the profession and that this sensitivity is observed not only in their professional activities but also in their private life.
An investigation has been initiated by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the lawyer, who is registered with the Izmir Bar Association, for not behaving in a manner appropriate to the dignity of the legal profession with her social media posts.
In accordance with the disciplinary provisions of the Attorneyship Law, a disciplinary process has also been initiated by the relevant bar association to examine whether her actions constitute a violation of professional rules and to make the necessary evaluations."
