In the Hasan Çelebi Neighborhood of Siverek district in Şanlıurfa, 19-year-old Ömer Ket carried out an armed attack on the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. The attacker, who randomly fired around with a shotgun, injured 16 people including teachers, students, a cafeteria operator, and a police officer, and then committed suicide.
"THE ATTACKER WAS A FORMER STUDENT OF THE SCHOOL"
Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak, stating that the attacker was a 19-year-old former student of the school, emphasized that the treatment of 12 injured is currently continuing at Siverek State Hospital, while the other 4 people have been taken under treatment in Şanlıurfa.
Governor Şıldak said, "In the morning hours around 09:30, a former student of the school, born in 2007, entered the school with a pump-action shotgun and randomly opened fire, resulting in 16 people being injured. Among the injured, 4 are teachers, 1 is a police officer, and 1 is a cafeteria operator. Thank God, we have no loss of life. 2 teachers and 2 students were referred to the provincial center because their health condition was somewhat more moderate. The treatment of our 12 injured continues at Siverek State Hospital. We are investigating the incident from multiple angles. The attacker is a former student of the school, he was only in the 9th grade and later transferred to an open education high school. He was born in 2007. He was cornered inside the school by the intervention of our police and took his own life. We evacuated the school. We are deeply saddened. Our investigation is ongoing."
