A FIGHT BROKE OUT BETWEEN THE STREET VENDOR AND MUNICIPAL POLICE
The incident occurred around noon on Gazi Street in Sur district. A dispute arose between a street vendor selling on the sidewalk and municipal police teams over the removal of the stall. As the argument escalated, a scuffle took place between the parties. The incident was captured on a mobile phone by those nearby.
STATEMENT FROM SUR MUNICIPALITY
In a written statement by Sur Municipality regarding the incident, it was said, "As Sur Municipality, numerous meetings had previously been held to resolve the issue of sidewalk occupations obstructing pedestrian passage on Gazi Street, and a deadline until October 25 was given for the removal of the stalls. Despite all dialogue and reconciliation efforts, as the sidewalk occupations continued, the necessary intervention was carried out by municipal police teams of Sur Municipality and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality."
