On September 23, 2024, during the efforts to capture the suspect Yunus Emre Geçti (19), who has 26 criminal records, police officer Şeyda Yılmaz (27) lost her life in the ensuing scuffle. Geçti was arrested and sent to prison for the crime of "deliberately killing a public official due to their duty." The investigation conducted by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident has been completed.

In the prepared indictment, it was requested that Yunus Emre Geçti be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "deliberately killing a public official due to their duty, in order to conceal a crime, destroy evidence, facilitate its commission, or avoid capture" regarding the martyrdom of police officer Şeyda Yılmaz.

The indictment noted that the severe injury of police officer Kürşat Hakkı Sarıtepe constituted an attempt to murder, stating that "deliberately attempting to kill a public official due to their duty, in order to conceal a crime, destroy evidence, facilitate its commission, or avoid capture" carries a penalty of up to 20 years, and for the attempted murder of his mother Pınar Geçti, a penalty of up to 20 years was also requested for the crime of "attempting to deliberately kill a direct relative."

AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR 5 SEPARATE CRIMES

The indictment recorded that Yunus Emre Geçti resisted 2 police officers at the scene, requesting 7 years, 10 months, and 15 days for the crime of "resisting to prevent the performance of duty in a chain manner" and up to 3 years for the crime of "violating the Law on Firearms and Knives and Other Tools." In total, it was requested that Yunus Emre Geçti be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and up to 50 years, 10 months, and 15 days for 5 separate crimes.

REQUEST NOT TO APPLY A DISCOUNT

In the indictment, it was requested that no discount be applied to Yunus Emre Geçti's sentence due to his background, social relations, and the nature and characteristics of the crime. The prepared indictment was sent to the Istanbul Anadolu 26th High Criminal Court. If the court accepts the indictment, the trial of the suspect Geçti will begin in the coming days.
