The strike decision of Kadıköy Municipality workers lasted for one minute.

The workers of the Turkey General Services Workers Union (Genel-İş) Branch No. 1, affiliated with the Revolutionary Workers' Unions Confederation (DİSK), gathered in front of the Kadıköy Municipality Marriage Office late at night and announced that they had decided to go on strike due to the failure to reach an agreement in the collective bargaining with the Kadıköy Municipality, hanging a banner that read "There is a strike at this workplace" on the municipal building.

Nazan Gevher Çam Ay, the President of the Anadolu Yakası Branch No. 1 of the union, stated in her remarks here that they decided to go on strike after the collective bargaining negotiations with the Kadıköy Municipality and its subsidiary, Kadıköy Health Tourism Education Environmental Cleaning Industry Trade Inc. (KASDAŞ), and the Social Democratic Public Employers Union (SODEMSEN) ended negatively.

THEY COULD NOT DISCUSS THE CONTRACT DETAILS

However, when the clock struck 00:01 on November 19, a message was sent to the workers by the Kadıköy Municipality stating, "Our negotiations between KASDAŞ Company and our Genel-İş Union have resulted in an agreement." The workers gathered in front of the Kadıköy Municipality for the strike decision tried to discuss the details of the contract signed with union representatives in response to this message, but they could not achieve any results.

"THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SITUATION"

Nazan Gevher Çam Ay, in her speech to the workers waiting in front of the municipality, stated that the contract was signed against their will, saying, "We protested in front of the municipality for a long time to prevent this contract from being signed. We did not foresee that the contract would be signed just after midnight. We will explain this whole process. There is no point in me staying here as the branch president. We did not hang the banner 'do not touch the will of the worker' in front of the municipal building for nothing. You are receiving messages on your mobile phones while we are waving the strike banner, and this is not an acceptable situation."

After the text of the collective bargaining agreement signed between the union and the Kadıköy Municipality was revealed, a large portion of the workers waiting for the strike decision left the front of the municipal building.
