In Mus, Erkan S., who is claimed to have a psychological disorder, seriously injured his hearing-impaired brother Bahtiyar S. by shooting him with a pistol after an argument. Following the incident, the suspect locked himself in the house and opened fire on the police. He was neutralized by special operations teams during an operation. A police officer was also injured in the foot during the operation.
The incident occurred in the afternoon in the Muratpaşa neighborhood. Erkan S., who is alleged to have a psychological disorder, argued with his hearing-impaired brother Bahtiyar S. for an unknown reason. As the argument escalated, Erkan S. wounded his brother by shooting him in the right chest with the pistol he had. Upon the report of neighbors who heard the gunshot and the fight, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Bahtiyar S. was taken to Muş State Hospital by ambulance. Bahtiyar S., who was in life-threatening condition, was transferred to a hospital in Van for further examination and treatment after initial intervention.
LOCKED HIMSELF IN THE HOUSE Erkan S., who locked himself in the house, responded to the police officers' call to 'surrender' by opening fire with his pistol. The suspect's gunfire hit some nearby buildings and vehicles, prompting extensive security measures in the neighborhood. Following a radio announcement by the police teams, special operations units were dispatched to the area as support. The teams, forming a security perimeter around the house, took precautions by evacuating citizens from the area. After hours of persuasion efforts yielded no results, special operations teams carried out an operation. During the operation, a police officer was injured in the foot, while Erkan S. was shot and neutralized. The injured police officer was taken to the hospital for treatment. The lifeless body of the neutralized Erkan S. was taken to the morgue for an autopsy after the on-site investigation.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP In a written statement from the Muş Governorship, it was stated: "In the incident that occurred today around 16:00 in our Muratpaşa neighborhood, a person named Erkan S., who has a psychological disorder, wounded his brother Bahtiyar S. with a firearm as a result of an argument between them. The injured Bahtiyar S. was taken to Muş State Hospital by health teams dispatched to the scene and treated, and it has been learned that his life is in danger."
