The suspect who stabbed his neighbor 30 times: "I wouldn't have killed him if he hadn't spat in my face."

In September 2023, a trial regarding the "murder for placing shoes outside the door" continued at the Bursa 4th High Criminal Court in an apartment located in the Hasanbeyli neighborhood of Mudanya district in Bursa. The hearing was attended by the detained defendant Hasan Şahin (62), who is being tried for "premeditated murder," the family of the deceased Mustafa Çikin (51), and the lawyers of both parties.

"HE FOLLOWED AND KILLED MY HUSBAND"

During the hearing, S.Ç, the wife of Mustafa Çikin, who was heard as a complainant, stated, "We had no problem with this man. Two days before the incident, he came to our door and asked us not to put our shoes outside. Then he followed my husband and killed him. We do not know why he did this. He killed my husband for no reason. I am filing a complaint against him."

OPINION WAS ANNOUNCED

The opinion in the case was announced. The prosecutor requested aggravated life imprisonment for the detained defendant for the charge of "premeditated murder." In his defense, he claimed that contrary to the allegations, it was not him but his neighbor who followed the service vehicle on the day of the incident.

"IF HE HADN'T SPIT IN MY FACE, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED"

Şahin, who stated that he had warned his neighbor several times not to place his shoes in front of the apartment door, said, "I was the manager of the apartment. Mustafa is my opposite neighbor. I warned him because he placed his shoes and belongings in front of the door. That's why we had an argument. He insulted me. That’s why we had enmity between us. On the day of the incident, he followed my service vehicle with his bicycle while I was going to work. When he suddenly appeared in front of me, we argued again. I got angry when he spat in my face. I swung the knife I took out of my pocket at him. I do not remember injuring him because I was in shock. If he hadn't spat in my face, this incident would not have happened." The court panel postponed the hearing while deciding to continue Hasan Şahin's detention.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In September 2023, a dispute had started between Hasan Şahin, who was using a service vehicle, and his opposite neighbor Mustafa Çikin, regarding not placing shoes in front of the door in the apartment where they lived. The next day, it was alleged that Şahin followed Çikin, who was going to work on his bicycle, with the service vehicle and hit him. In the fight that broke out between the parties, Hasan Şahin stabbed Mustafa Çikin a total of 30 times, 5 of which were life-threatening, killing him.
