While the suspects in the murder of Mehmet Akgül appeared before the judge for the second time; the brother of the deceased, Hüseyin Akgül, said, "Anıl was not sharing our pain. She had no reaction like her husband had been shot."
On the first day of Ramadan Bayram, around 07:00, Mehmet Akgül, who was engaged in shoe wholesale and construction, was found motionless at the wheel of his truck in the Postacılar neighborhood of Bayraklı district in İzmir.
It was understood that Akgül, who was married and a father of one child, had been shot in the head with a gun and that the left window of the vehicle was broken. He could not be saved at the private hospital to which he was taken by ambulance.
FOUND OUT HE WAS BETRAYED BEFORE HE DIED
Mehmet Akgül, who had 10 siblings, 4 of whom were girls, was reported to have siblings who had been working in England for 33 years, sending their earnings to him in Turkey. It was stated that Akgül was engaged in shoe production and construction with his savings, and allegedly, when he learned he was being betrayed, he informed his wife that he would divorce her 20 days before the incident.
CAMERA RECORDINGS WERE EXAMINED
As part of the investigation launched regarding the incident, the police determined that Mehmet Akgül was killed on the street where his shop and home were located. Teams watching dozens of hours of footage from more than 30 security cameras in the area identified that Akgül entered the neighborhood with his truck around 05:00.
From the footage between the times Akgül entered the neighborhood and was at the crime scene, attention was focused on Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu, who were in the car that entered the neighborhood, both of whom worked as laborers at İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, and two suspects were detained. Anıl Akgül, who exhibited contradictory behaviors, was also taken into custody.
HIS WIFE CONFESSED TO THE MURDER! HIRED A HITMAN FOR 500 THOUSAND LIRA
While Kızılban and Uslu did not accept the accusations at the police station, Anıl Akgül confessed to the murder. In his statement, Akgül said that Mehmet Akgül did not care about him, that he had started a romantic relationship with Rojhat Kızılban during this process, and that Kızılban had hired Gültekin Uslu as a hitman for 500 thousand TL to carry out the murder. It was learned that the agreed amount had not been paid to Uslu. After their procedures at the police station, Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu, who were referred to the court, were arrested, while Anıl Akgül was released under judicial control. Following new evaluations by the prosecutor's office, Akgül was taken into custody again the next day. After his procedures, Anıl Akgül, who was referred to the Duty Peace Criminal Court, was also arrested.
THEY DENIED THE ACCUSATIONS
The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested aggravated life imprisonment for Anıl Akgül for 'intentional killing of a spouse', and separate life sentences for Gültekin Uslu and Rojhat Kızılban for 'intentional killing', as well as up to 3 years in prison for 'purchasing, carrying, or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition'. In the first hearing of the case held on May 13, the defendants, who gave contradictory statements, denied the accusations.
THEY APPEARED BEFORE THE JUDGE FOR THE 2ND TIME
The suspects appeared before the judge for the second time today at the İzmir 4th High Criminal Court. In addition to the detained suspects, the lawyers of the parties, as well as the brothers of the murdered Mehmet Akgül, Hasan Akgül and Hüseyin Akgül, and witness Sultan Taşar were present at the hearing.
"HE SAID, 'SHE MUST HAVE DONE IT TO COLLECT DEBTS'"
Witness Sultan Taşar, who was heard in the hearing, stated that he saw Anıl Akgül and his son in the hospital but that they remained silent in the face of the incident. Taşar recounted that he asked Akgül who shot her husband, and she replied, "She must have done it to collect debts." Her son said nothing, and both were completely unresponsive. There was no sign of crying, whining, or mourning. Later, the police came and took all three away.
We were looking for a doctor, and Anıl Akgül had returned from the police station, sitting in the garden with his family. He did not participate in our panic at all and made no effort. I saw Anıl Akgül again while Mehmet Akgül was in intensive care. While he was wearing normal clothes in the morning, this time he was dressed up. Later, I saw Anıl Akgül sitting in the hospital garden with the suspect Rojhat," he stated.
"SHE HAD NO CONCERN LIKE HER HUSBAND HAD BEEN SHOT"
Suspect Anıl Akgül stated that the family of her murdered husband exhibited hostile attitudes towards her and her son, saying, "They want to involve my son in this case; I did not speak with the suspects before and after the incident by phone."
Suspect Rojhat Kızılban stated that the victim's son asked him for permission to attend various events and occasionally sent him pocket money, saying, "I have no interest in anyone's material possessions; I did not carry out such a thing."
Suspect Gültekin Uslu said, "I don't know who went in and shot. Anıl was cheating. I am not concerned with property matters. I am innocent; I want my acquittal," he stated.
Hüseyin Akgül, the brother of the murdered Mehmet Akgül, said, "Our relatives were crying in the hospital, but this was normal. Anıl was not sharing our pain. She had no reaction like her husband had been shot."
THE COURT WAS ADJOURNED
The court board decided to continue the detention of the suspects and adjourned the hearing to address the deficiencies in the file.
