In the Gezi Park trial, manager Ayşe Barım, who appeared before the judge for the first time, denied all the charges. In her tearful defense, Barım described the health issues she faced in prison, saying, "My whole body is bruised, I want my right to live back." Actors Şebnem Sönmez and Metin Yıldız, who were heard as witnesses, emphasized that Barım did not play a guiding role in the participation in Gezi.
Manager Ayşe Barım, who was arrested as part of the investigation into the Gezi Park events, appeared before the judge for the first time at the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court. Barım, who faces charges of "aiding and abetting an attempt to overthrow the government using force and violence," is facing a prison sentence of 22 years and 6 months to 30 years. In her emotional defense during the hearing, she denied all the allegations.
Speaking with tears in her eyes, Barım stated, "I did not guide anyone. I am not their boss; I am their manager. I speak with my actors every day; it is part of my job. I went there when I saw them there. I was there with the same stance as during the July 15 rally or the February 6 earthquake," she expressed. Barım also mentioned the health issues she has been experiencing in prison, saying, "I have six different ailments in my heart, and I have a brain aneurysm. My whole body is bruised. Please let me, I just want to live healthily. I want my right to live back," she said. The defendant stated that she was not allowed to undergo tests before surgery and that the conditions were dangerous for her health.
WITNESS STATEMENTS EMERGED
Artists who were heard as witnesses during the hearing expressed their support against the allegations made against Barım.
Actress Şebnem Sönmez stated, "Ayşe Barım had no contribution to my participation in Gezi Park," while actor Metin Yıldız said, "I have no information regarding Ayşe Barım's guidance."
Famous names such as Serenay Sarıkaya, Hande Erçel, Halit Ergenç, Bergüzar Korel, Merve Dizdar, and Ezgi Mola also came to the courthouse to watch the hearing. The court postponed the hearing to a later date after the defense and witness statements.
