In Tokat, Ayşe Ekinci, a mother of five, was taken to the hospital after collapsing due to a tick bite. Despite all the doctors' interventions, the woman's condition worsened, and she passed away.

With the arrival of the summer months, there has been an increase in tick cases. Ayşe Ekinci (38), a mother of five living in the Üçgöl village highlands of Almus district in Tokat, was bitten by a tick 9 days ago. After feeling unwell for a while, Ekinci was taken to Almus State Hospital by her relatives.

DIED FROM TICK BITE

The woman's condition worsened, and she was later transferred to Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (TOGÜ) Hospital. Ekinci, who was in intensive care with a suspicion of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), could not be saved this morning.

HOW TO PROTECT AGAINST TICK BITES?

To protect against tick bites, it is quite effective to wear long-sleeved clothing and tuck pant legs into socks when going into nature, especially in grassy, bushy, or forested areas. Wearing light-colored clothing makes it easier to notice ticks that cling to the body. Additionally, upon returning from nature, areas of the body such as behind the knees, behind the ears, the groin, and the armpits should be carefully checked. The use of protective sprays against ticks also helps reduce the risk. If a tick is detected, it should never be removed with bare hands, and a healthcare facility should be consulted.
